Fidya (Compensation): Paid when a fast is missed for a valid, uncontrollable reason (e.g., chronic illness, pregnancy, old age) and cannot be made up later.
Kaffarah (Atonement): Paid for deliberately breaking a fast without a valid reason. The penalty is fasting 60 consecutive days or, if unable, feeding 60 poor people.
