Stories of Tawakkul: Asiya's RA House in Paradise

Asiya bint Muzahim(RA) was the wife of Pharaoh. Despite being surrounded by luxury and power, Asiya’s heart was a sanctuary of faith and piety. Her story, as narrated in the Qur’an and the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, shines as a beacon of hope and resilience for all believers.

Asiya's RA is one of the four woman granted paradise and an example for men and women, showing her bravery and faith.

Ibn `Abbas said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) drew four lines on the ground, then he said, “Do you know what this is?” We said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The best of the women of Paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Asiyah bint Muzahim (the wife of Pharaoh), and Maryam bint ‘Imran – may Allah be pleased with them.” (Narrated by Ahmad, 2663. Classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’, 1135)

Asiya’s life was marked by her unwavering reliance on Allah. Married to one of the most tyrannical rulers in history, she faced unimaginable trials. Pharaoh, known for his arrogance and cruelty, declared himself a god and subjected countless people to his whims. Yet, within his very household, Asiya nurtured a steadfast belief in the one true God, Allah.

The defining moment of Asiya’s faith is captured in her heartfelt dua:

“And Allah presents an example of those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, “My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.”

– Surah At Tahrim, Verse 11

This supplication encapsulates her profound reliance on Allah, seeking not the fleeting comforts of this world but the eternal bliss of the hereafter.

Allah comforted her during her trials by opening up the heavens and showing her, her house in Paradise near Him.

Asiya’s dua is a powerful reminder for us in our daily lives. Many of us face challenges that test our patience and faith—be it personal struggles, family conflicts, or societal pressures. Like Asiya, we too can turn to Allah, seeking His help and trusting in His wisdom. Her reliance on Allah is a testament to the strength that comes from faith, inspiring us to rise above our circumstances with hope and courage.

Imagine Asiya, standing in the opulent halls of Pharaoh’s palace, her heart yearning for the tranquility of Allah’s presence. Despite the allure of wealth and power surrounding her, she remained steadfast in her belief, knowing that true solace lay in her connection with Allah. Her faith transcended her immediate reality, anchoring her soul in the promise of Paradise.

Asiya’s story resonates with many of us today. In a world obsessed with material success and superficial pleasures, her example urges us to seek a deeper, more meaningful existence. She teaches us that true peace and fulfillment come from a sincere and unwavering reliance on Allah. Her life encourages us to make our own heartfelt duas, trusting that Allah hears our prayers and will guide us through our trials.

Her plea, “My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise,” is not just a supplication but a declaration of her ultimate goal. It is a profound lesson for us to focus on the eternal rewards and strive to live a life that pleases Allah. Asiya’s reliance on Allah and her desire for nearness to Him remind us to prioritize our spiritual well-being over worldly gains.

“Among the virtues of Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, is that she chose death over royal privilege and torment in this world over the luxury in which she was living. And her insight concerning Musa (peace be upon him) was correct when she said “A comfort of the eye for me” [al-Qasas 28:9 – interpretation of the meaning].” (Fath al-Bari, 6/448)

In conclusion, Asiya's RA reliance on Allah is a timeless example of faith and resilience. Her story, beautifully narrated in the Qur’an and hadith, serves as an inspiration for all believers. By following her example, we can find strength in our own faith, make heartfelt duas, and strive to attain the ultimate reward - a house near Allah in Paradise. As we navigate our daily lives, let us remember Asiya’s unwavering trust in Allah and seek to emulate her devotion and piety.
