Where Mercy Becomes Action

Dhul Hijjah

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are not ordinary days. They are the most beloved days to Allah. Days where every act of worship carries immense weight. Days of sacrifice, mercy, compassion and transformation.

For many of us, sacrifice means giving up comfort for a few moments. But for millions around the world, sacrifice is daily life:

  • A mother in Gaza skipping meals so her children can eat.
  • A refugee in Cameroon rebuilding life from nothing.
  • A widow in Afghanistan struggling to provide warmth and dignity for her family.
  • A child in Chad studying in a tent because war took away their classroom.
  • A homeless person in South London searching for one hot meal and human kindness.

This Dhul Hijjah, we remember that Islam is not only prayer and ritual. It is compassion in action.

Feed Hope, Nurture Lives Around the World

These blessed days remind us that worship is deeply connected to service. To feed the hungry. To shelter the vulnerable. To uplift women. To care for orphans. To protect dignity. To plant seeds of hope.

That is the mission of SWAN.

The Spirit of Sacrifice

The story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) teaches us submission, trust and sacrifice for the sake of Allah. But sacrifice did not end there. Today, sacrifice lives on in:

  • Parents going hungry for their children
  • Refugees rebuilding after conflict
  • Women carrying entire households alone
  • Volunteers serving communities quietly every week
  • Families surviving war, displacement and poverty with patience and faith

Dhul Hijjah calls us to respond to that suffering with mercy.

The Day of Arafah

The Day of Arafah marks the moment Prophet Muhammad ﷺ delivered his final sermon. A sermon rooted in:

It is the day Allah perfected this religion. Today, as we witness war, displacement, hunger and injustice across the world, the message of Arafah feels more urgent than ever. The Prophet ﷺ said fasting on this day wipes away the sins of the previous and coming year. And for those unable to stand on the plains of Arafah, charity becomes a powerful way to stand with humanity.

This is a day to:

  • Feed the hungry
  • Protect the vulnerable
  • Support widows and orphans
  • Show mercy to those forgotten by the world

Especially:

  • Families in Gaza
  • Refugees rebuilding after war
  • Mothers struggling alone
  • Communities facing hunger and displacement
  • Arafah reminds us that faith without compassion is incomplete.

Not pity. Responsibility. This is our opportunity to stand beside those who sacrifice every single day just to survive.

Qurbani: Sustain a Life. Uplift a Community

As the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah begin, we are reminded of the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) — a legacy rooted in obedience, sacrifice, and complete trust in Allah. Qurbani is not simply a ritual. It is an act of devotion that carries the power to nourish, uplift, and transform lives.

This year, your Qurbani is more than a sacrifice. It is an opportunity to sustain a life and uplift an entire community. Across the world, families are facing the harsh realities of poverty, displacement, and crisis. For many, Eid arrives quietly - without food, without celebration, without joy.

Their plates are empty. You can fill them. Their Eid is silent. You can bring it to life.

Together we can make a difference!

This Dhul Hijjah, give your Zakat where it is needed most. Invest in Sadaqah Jariyah for lasting reward and plant hope for generations to come.
